Spartan Football Athletes and Parents:
It is time to think about the upcoming 2012 season. This can be a very exciting year as we will be playing in class 3A for the next two years. The reason for the move to 3A is the population at TJ is 1048 students and that makes us a 3A school for football. We will be competing against teams that are equivalent to us in regards to student population and this could make for a great season.
I believe that we can compete for a state title at this level and we must come in with the attitude that this is possible. Athletes need to start preparing right now for the fall season. If they are not participating in a TJ sport they need to be in the weight room. Coach Burns has the weight room open every day after school.
List of upcoming events:
1. All athletes should be lifting weights now.
2. Summer lifting will be announced
3. Contact camp will be July 16 through July 27.
a. Cost of the camp is $120 and is due May 25th for a personalized practice jersey.
i. Funds from the contact camp are used for coaches and equipment.
b. Youth camp 7/24,25,26
4. Athletes should have a physical by Aug. 1 if possible.
5. Athletic fee for football is due by Aug. 20th
In order for us to keep up with the better teams in the state of Colorado we must fundraise and we need the help of every person including coaches, in the program athletes and family members. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. We will have a fundraiser in August and every player needs to assist with this activity.
I am giving the information at this time so that we all see the needs that are coming up. I am happy to take payments if this will help in getting the fees covered.
Thank You

Coaches Corner
2011 Football Season
Well the 2011 football season is now upon us and it is time to get to work. This letter is to explain the activities in the first two weeks and let you know what is expected of student athletes and parents.
We will have an inter-squad scrimmage on Saturday 8/20 practice starts at 8:30 am. We will have a parent meeting immediately after the scrimmage and at least one parent is strongly encouraged to attend. We will also have a scrimmage at Eaglecrest HS on 8/26 starting at 4:30.
Eligibility is always on the mind of the coaching staff, teachers will report grades every Monday if an athlete has any grade lower than a C he must attend study hall at 6:30 am this is not negotiable it is the same as practice and can’t be missed. We do this to encourage student athletes to keep high academic standards and they do not have to miss practice for tutoring. If a player has two F’s on Monday he will not be allowed to play any game that week.
Practice begins at 3:15 starting 8/18 for the remainder of the season, although we will attempt to get players off the field by 6:00 it is possible that some practices go longer as needed. I would like to stress the NO PRACTICE NO PLAY. If any player is going to miss practice he must inform Coach Owens before he misses practice. If a player misses a practice and is not excused by Coach Owens he will not be allowed to play in any game that weekend.
Fundraising must be done to keep the equipment updated, buy tee shirts and feed your players the day before games. We sell the 2-for-1 cards. I ask every player to sell at least 12 cards, this is $300 per player and if we sell every card the program earns $20,000. This is a great start to sustain the program. So please encourage your student athletes to sell the cards, they more than pay for themselves if you use any of the big coupons. (My wife and I went to comedy work and saved $25 in on use).
If a parent has an issue he would like to discuss with me please feel free to contact me. I respond to email’s quickly, phone messages are a little slower. Coaches will not discuss any topic in regards to playing time so please do not ask about that. You can ask what your athlete can do to improve himself.
Thank You for your support
