TJ’s defense played an amazing game with five turnovers created, and gave the Spartans a win over the rivaled Montbello Warriors, 34-12.

The day began with TJ honoring the senior football players and cheerleaders who put in hard work throughout their tenure, and showed the younger players how to uphold the Spartan tradition. TJ’s offense clicked on all cylinders right from the start, when Senior Quarterback Brandon Gonzales threw a 55 yard strike to wideout Jamal Shields for a quick lead. TJ’s defense wasn’t as effective from the start though, and Montbello’s Matthew Hogan ran all over them for an entire drive. The Warriors capped off the scoring possession with a quick draw to Jerrell Nettles, missed the two-point attempt, and the score was 7-6 Spartans. Hogan had another great run in the first half, and scored another touchdown with a 60 yard scamper, and the score was 12-7 Warriors, heading into the locker room at the end of the first half. Coaches Corner

2011 Football Season

spartantjWell the 2011 football season is now upon us and it is time to get to work. This letter is to explain the activities in the first two weeks and let you know what is expected of student athletes and parents.

We will have an inter-squad scrimmage on Saturday 8/20 practice starts at 8:30 am. We will have a parent meeting immediately after the scrimmage and at least one parent is strongly encouraged to attend. We will also have a scrimmage at Eaglecrest HS on 8/26 starting at 4:30.

Eligibility is always on the mind of the coaching staff, teachers will report grades every Monday if an athlete has any grade lower than a C he must attend study hall at 6:30 am this is not negotiable it is the same as practice and can’t be missed. We do this to encourage student athletes to keep high academic standards and they do not have to miss practice for tutoring. If a player has two F’s on Monday he will not be allowed to play any game that week.

Practice begins at 3:15 starting 8/18 for the remainder of the season, although we will attempt to get players off the field by 6:00 it is possible that some practices go longer as needed. I would like to stress the NO PRACTICE NO PLAY. If any player is going to miss practice he must inform Coach Owens before he misses practice. If a player misses a practice and is not excused by Coach Owens he will not be allowed to play in any game that weekend.

Fundraising must be done to keep the equipment updated, buy tee shirts and feed your players the day before games. We sell the 2-for-1 cards. I ask every player to sell at least 12 cards, this is $300 per player and if we sell every card the program earns $20,000. This is a great start to sustain the program. So please encourage your student athletes to sell the cards, they more than pay for themselves if you use any of the big coupons. (My wife and I went to comedy work and saved $25 in on use).

If a parent has an issue he would like to discuss with me please feel free to contact me. I respond to email’s quickly, phone messages are a little slower. Coaches will not discuss any topic in regards to playing time so please do not ask about that. You can ask what your athlete can do to improve himself.

Thank You for your support
